Kouzo Takeuchi
Kozo Takeuchi (b. 1977) graduated from the Osaka University of Arts and then pursued further studies at Tajimi Ishoken, a research centre which continues to birth remarkable young ceramic artists who have gone on to reinvent the medium.
Takeuchi was fascinated by the power of ruins and historic buildings, and creates works that combine ancient and modern times. While studying the characteristics of pottery, such as the white porcelain series in which cubes are regularly assembled and fired and then boldly destroyed with a hammer, and the series in which the surface of the glaze is scraped off to reveal the accumulated time with a rough expression , He has developed a unique ceramic expression that includes a multi-layered, multi-directional time axis. He creates his intricate works with an academic approach with the focus on structure, and his ceramic sculptures have gained recognition within Japan as well as abroad.
